The Ecotec Family II is a DOHC 4-valve design with an aluminum block and head (L850 for 86 mm bore applications, and L880 for 88 mm bore), designed for displacements from 1.8 to 2.4 L. It was developed by an international team of engineers and technicians from Opel’s International Technical Development Center in Rsselsheim, Germany, GM Powertrain in Pontiac, Michigan, and Saab in Trollhttan, Sweden.[citation needed] Much of the development work on this project was carried out by Lotus Engineering, Hethel, United Kingdom. The engine uses aluminum pistons and cast iron cylinder liners. Vibration is reduced with twin balance shafts.
The current Ecotec line is manufactured in Tonawanda, New York, Kaiserslautern, Germany, and (for Saturn) in Spring Hill, Tennessee.

Germany will be affected the most, with 5,660 jobs to go. Last Monday, Reilly had a meeting with Opel’s European works council, after which, they issued a statement that said: “According to the plans, headcount will be cut by 2,000 additional persons in comparison to management statements in public.” Reilly emphasized that they don’t plan to go beyond the 8,300 job reductions communicated earlier in conjunction with the restructuring. Reportedly, the additional 2,000 jobs refer to employees who had already signed up to a pre-retirement part-time program in 2006 in Germany. Opel has said it needs to cut jobs as part of its plan to reduce capacity by a fifth to counter slow demand for new cars that could stay weak for years.

The Insignia OPC is available with a six-speed manual gearbox. The strong torque of 400 Nm ensures abundant pulling power even at lower engine speeds. With this engine performance, the Insignia OPC reaches a top speed of 250 km/h (restricted) and sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in six seconds.

The Insignia OPC also comes with the adaptive FlexRide suspension which not only adapts to driving situation and driving style but also to the driver’s preferences. While on the Insignia the system offers the choice between a standard adaptive setting, a more comfortable mode and a sport mode, the OPC is definitely addressing those enjoying a sportier ride. OPC drivers can choose between three different sport modes: the standard mode as the high comfort setting, a special Sport mode and the OPC mode, for optimal performance.

The high performance version of the Car of the Year 2009 will be unveiled on May 7, when the Opel Insignia OPC premieres at the Barcelona Motor Show, ten years after the launch of the first OPC model (Opel Performance Center). The heart of the Insignia OPC is its 2.8 V6 Turbo engine. Derived from the powerful gasoline engine already available on the top-of-the-line Insignia, this version reaches an output of 239 kW/325 hp.
The increase in power was obtained by a special engine development and by reworking the exhaust, significantly reducing the counter pressure. And because sound is so important in the appreciation of an engine, the acoustic specialists worked on the exhaust of the V6 by adopting specific center and rear mufflers.

“I was personally involved in the development of the Insignia OPC and I very much enjoyed extensive testing on the most demanding race track of the world, the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Our target was to rival the “best of the best”,” said Hans Demant, Managing Director Adam Opel GmbH.

For the first time also in the OPC portfolio, the Adaptive 4×4 system and its electronic rear limited slip differential (eLSD) are standard. The four-wheel drive management unit has been recalibrated to adapt torque distribution to the sporty philosophy of the OPC. Taking the higher performances of the OPC into consideration, significant development efforts were put into further improving the brake system. Connoisseurs will immediately spot the Brembo calipers and the perforated 355 mm disc on the front axle.

Nissan Qashqai 2010 Reviews
Last month we revealed that the 2010 facelift for the Nissan Qashqai was actually running ahead of the original plan, and instead of a Summer launch as we first thought, Nissan now plans to have the 2010 Qashqai on the roads in March.
We reckoned that Nissan would release first details on the facelifted Qashqai early this month, so we’re pleased to see that we were bang on the money with the first pictures of the 2010 Qashqai dropping in to our inbox this morning.
Most noticeable of the changes – as you would expect from the camouflaged shots we saw earlier – is to the Qashqai’s nose. The whole front end gets a cosmetic workover for a much more aggressive visage. The back end gets LED lights and there are some new 17″ Alloys plus a couple of new colour options. The suspension has also had a tweak to improve handling.
Nissan are obviously going to drag the changes to the Qashqai out over a few days/weeks, as we don’t have pictures of the interior yet (apart from the instrument panel). However, we know that the Qashqai will have upgraded trim and a new instrument panel with an LCD screen. Nissan have also been working on making the Qashqai’s cabin a quieter place to be.
Engine options are to remain unchanged, although there will be an ECO Qashqai – powered by the 1.5 litre Turbo diesel – which will get the usual Eco-tweaks such as low rolling resistance tyres, lower suspension, longer gearing, irritating gear-change light etc.

ilt in Britain and better than ever - the Nissan Qashqai is being revised for 2010. Nissan's mid-size crossover model will undergo an extensive update in the spring of 2010 to cement its position as the class-leading, pioneering alternative to the traditional hatchback.
The updates to Nissan Qashqai and Qashqai+2 reinforce its position as a stylish crossover which combines the dynamic driving characteristics of a sporty hatchback with the robust, solid virtues of a compact SUV.
Refreshed Frontal Aspect
Since its European launch in March 2007, the Nissan Qashqai has exceeded all sales ambitions, with the 500,000th customer delivery scheduled to take place later this month. This has helped the British manufacturing industry through the recession, as all Qashqais are built at Nissan's Sunderland plant here in the UK.

The most notable visual change to the Nissan Qashqai is at the front, where a complete makeover has taken place. All new bonnet, front bumper, wings, grille and headlamps combine to give the Nissan Qashqai an air of premium sophistication, presence and quality. The new front-end design is shared with Qashqai+2

At the rear, the overall shape of the lights remains unchanged, but they now include an aerodynamic feature to reduce drag. A more transparent lens design has been adopted, with the upper portion, housing the reversing lights and indicators, being clear, while the lower section with the brake and nighttime running lights, is red. Additionally, the brake and tail lights operate using 12 LEDs for maximum clarity
